With Pace Academy students in Atlanta, Georgia

Welcome, friends! I’m so glad you stopped by for a visit. I’m Marie, and I write fiction for young adults.

My stories come from experiences I’ve had living and working in a U.S. South that is changing fast. I’m fascinated by how these changes are bringing communities together in new ways, and I’m also deeply disturbed by the forces that are trying to keep us apart.

When I’m not writing fiction, I spend my time as a researcher, advocate, and service provider with immigrants from Latin America. For many years, I’ve had the enormous honor of working – and developing deep and lasting friendships – with people who are building lives and building families in the United States, against many odds. You should know: The stories I write are fiction, but they also are very real. And for me, they are deeply personal. I firmly believe that through story, we connect.

Here, you can find out more about my books: Dream Things True (2015) The Radius of Us (2017) and Flight Season (2018). You also can check out my upcoming events, find out how to be in touch with me, and learn more about Read for Change, my year-long effort to bring fabulous YA books of cause to readers like you.

Don’t be a stranger! I’d love to connect with you.
